Lewisham is a suburb in the inner west of Sydney and is primarily a residential area with Victorian style terraces and free-standing houses with medium density housing under development.

Lewisham is located 8 km's south west of the Sydney CBD and is serviced by State Transit Authority buses and Lewisham Railway Station.

Lewisham took its name in 1834 from the estate of Joshua Frey Josephson, a German-born businessman who would later become mayor of Sydney. The estate was named it after the London borough of Lewisham, which means Leofsa's village or manor.  Lewisham is notable in railway history as the termination point for the first train journey in the NSW colony in 1855, although the Lewisham railway station was not built until 1885.
